This Speed Option Pass is an example of one of the most successful plays in football. It’s an exceptional play to put into your playbook. The concept and the scheme are simple, and the play requires very little teaching. On top of that, the play is not tied to any given system.
Position | Assignments/Notes |
---|---|
QB | Attack downhill 2 steps just like speed option, and then drop back reading the flat defender. Read Y – T – X. |
T | Swing. |
H | Cut the first threat off the tackles hip. |
X | Run 10-12 yard climb – show in the QB’s vision fast. |
Y | Attack the flat defender as if blocking bear, then speed release into the flats at 8 yards depth. |
Z | Run FOR 9 route – vs. Man expect the football. |
