The Jason Foundation, Inc., (JFI) and the AFCA affiliated in 2004 to address the “silent epidemic” of youth suicide. JFI is a nationally recognized leader in youth suicide awareness and prevention, providing programs to communities at no cost for more than 20 years.
Currently, suicide ranks as the second-leading cause of death for youth ages 10-24. We lose approximately 130 young people in this age group to suicide each week in our country. That being said, suicide has been labeled as one of the leading causes of PREVENTABLE death.
We are proud to announce that The Jason Foundation recently released a new smartphone app tailored to coaches. The Coaches Assistance Program, or CAP, provides education that you may need to help recognize the signs and symptoms of suicide in a student or student-athlete. Information is also provided to help you guide and support your athletes through stressful life situations. The new app will allow coaches, staff, and other personnel to have access to this information at all times.
Please consider downloading this invaluable resource. Hopefully, you will never need the information, but you will be glad to have it should it ever become necessary.
